Play Loom and enter the woven world

Loom is a world in perpetual creation, woven by the mysterious Loom of Creation, a cosmic machine that shapes lands, seas, and peoples. The world is divided between chaotic, youthful regions near the Loom, where life and death seem to be suspended, and distant, time-worn lands, home to vast, ancient civilizations. Between these two poles lie countless biomes inhabited by diverse races, from the draconic Drakes to the mysterious Bombyx, masters of a unique magic called Weaving, capable of altering fate itself.

Weave-Finder General Stearne, leader of the Bombyx, has begun a war to unite the world with this magic, but resistance arises with the forbidden art of Cutting, which can break the bonds of fate.

Embodying heroes from different cultures, you must choose your role in this epic conflict: resist, join Stearne's army, or survive in a world at war.

The eternal Struggle

Tapestry is a world constantly being born—slowly, inexorably— by a cosmic machine known as the Loom of Creation. The world is woven together by the Loom as it slowly unfurls, pushing ever outward. The lands and seas nearest the Loom are the youngest —they are the most volatile and chaotic, still shifting, cracking and changing as the Loom writes reality into their fabric. At the far end of the world, the oldest lands are gentle, worn down and, at the extremes, even lifeless. Between the two extremes exists a vast, vibrant world containing a myriad of biomes, climates and topographies—and, of course, multitudes of peoples who inhabit them.

There is more to this peculiar world than just its geography. As the world unspools across space, the laws that govern it change. Nearest the Loom, time passes slowly as if on a languid, endless summer day and death seems to have little hold on the people there—it seems the proximity of the Loom recreates the fabric that binds them to the world. Life in these regions is chaotic, free and wild, making civilization all but impossible to establish, even if the denizens desired it.

As time unfurls from the Loom, the lands and seas settle into more habitable zones. Time, age and death happen at an understandable pace. Civilizations rise and fall. Life goes on.

Furthest from the Loom, the lands and oceans are weary. The

mountains are worn down, seas are warm and shallow and time feels as if a year passes in a dreamy afternoon. The climates are cold and constant. Cities are vast megalopolises, stretching to the horizon, built by a thousand generations of inhabitants. That said, the peoples of these zones age and succumb to disease and senescence.

Legend states that one can walk to the end of the Tapestry and sit upon the ragged, fringed edge and stare off into the cosmos.

As the Loom of Creation churns ever on, spinning out new mountains, oceans, forests and, occasionally even people, the land and people fringe-ward get pushed further out, their civilizations aging and collapsing as the age of the fabric of the tapestry shifts the bounds of reality around them.

The loom-ward peoples, full of vitality and curiosity—often lacking in refined moralities— sweep down from their sharp mountains to explore or sometimes even conquer those they find in the plains below. The fringe-ward people, hungry for the life and energy the loom-ward lands possess, push loom-ward as settlers, missionaries and conquerors, as they attempt to tame and harness the boundless energy of the loom for themselves.

It is a cosmic struggle that plays out on the Tapestry in each generation, but it is not a war that can be won. As the loom-ward peoples reach these new lands, they settle and time seems to glide past them as they age and pass on. As the fringe-ward people push loom-ward, they find the lands there so abundant and wild, they lose their love of civilization and the order it brings.

The people of Loom

The Bombyx are moth-like beings with ten limbs and unique features that make physical tasks and reading challenging. They have developed a powerful new magic called Weaving, derived from their mastery of Patterning.

Drakes are seven-limbed, draconic creatures with long necks, capable of gliding flight. They are solitary, moody, and intelligent, preferring hunting and play over sorcery. As one of the oldest and youngest peoples of the Tapestry, new drake species periodically emerge, inhabiting Loomward lands, while the oldest rest in the Tapestry's cold fringes.

The origin of homunculi is debated, with some believing they result from flawed human sorcery, while others see them as a natural part of the Tapestry. They are smaller than humans, with misshapen limbs and diverse facial features. Despite their human-like abilities, they lack internal organs and do not bleed, though they feel pain. Some possess extra limbs like wings or tails.

Huldra, the ancestors of humans, trolls, and yrch, prefer forests and wild places. They are smaller than humans and have features like tails and pointed ears. Disappointed by their descendants' embrace of civilization, they play tricks to remind them of their origins. Huldra are also master chanters, having taught this art to others.

Humans, descended from huldra, have lost their tails and ears, and built large cities along rivers. They are skilled builders but are often arrogant and lack advanced sorcery skills.

Trolls, descendants of huldra, have adopted otherworldly traits and live in anarchic communities, rejecting both huldra and human ways. They often ally with others to disrupt civilization and are viewed as advisors, mercenaries, and wanderers. Kabutomusha find them tiresome, huldra pity them, and humans fear them.

Find out more about the Yrch, the megathere, the kabutomusha and so much more.

Playtest was very fun! I was very impressed with how the game master would respond to parts of my entire message. Usually nothing I said was left out or forgotten.

My game was fun overall. It got kinda buggy towards the end, but I enjoyed what I saw. I would have enjoyed finishing the whole quest.
